The Schmup Stage is an extra stage in Freedom Planet, and is only playable in Adventure & Classic modes.

- Zao's rules on using the Tank

The Schmup Stage is a side-scrolling rail-shooter that serves as an opening act to Battle Glacier. The player will pilot a vehicle and blast through Lord Brevon's army as they fight their way across the snowfields to the Dreadnought, which is preparing to lift off with the Kingdom Stone. The objective is to fight and survive against multiple enemies for 6000 Meters. At the end of the stage, the player will face Syntax, who will attack with her Cancer-Mode, and must be defeated in order to proceed to the next stage. Use caution, for any damage the player takes in this stage will be carried over into Battle Glacier.

Gameplay

Holodragon Gameplay

If playing as Lilac, the player will ride the Holodragon, which can shoot fireballs and a massive beam and can freely fly around. There can only be three waves of fireballs onscreen at a time.

Moveset

	Dragon Beam The Holodragon fires a massive Beam that does high damage. The radius of the Beam grows smaller and weaker as it uses Energy. - Button - Special (Hold)
	Dragon Dash The Holodragon can dash forward in one direction. - Button - Jump
	Dragon Fire Storm The Holodragon can fire a spread shot of 3 fireballs at enemies. - Button - Attack

Shang Mu Tank Gameplay

If playing as Carol or Milla, the player will pilot a Shang Mu tank provided by Mayor Zao. It is armed with a spark shooter, a flamethrower and thrusters that enable it to jump.

	Double Jump The Shang Mu Tanks are equipped with thrusters underneath, enabling them the launch into the air twice in a row. - Button - Jump (x2)
	Flamethrower The Shang Mu Tanks can spew sweeping flames that inflict high damage. The range of the flames grows shorter as it uses Energy. - Button - Special (Hold)
	Spark Launcher The Shang Mu Tanks can fire red sparks that move in an arc. There can only be 3 sparks onscreen at a time. - Button - Attack (Hold)

Trivia

• In this stage, the life regenerator doesn't work for Carol & Milla on casual & easy modes.
  • Only Lilac's life meter regenerates during this stage and at the start of Battle Glacier, regardless of the stage difficulty.
• In this stage, Milla has 7 life petals, instead of 4.

• The Dragon Beam itself is based on the secondary laser attack used by different Antares models in Border Down.
