The Shade Troopers[1] are alien robots that appear in the Freedom Planet Series, serving as the foot soldiers in Lord Brevon's Army.

Appearance[]

Shade Troopers are robotic creatures that are powered by Shade Cores encased in mechanical battle suits, each armed with an Energy Rifle. They attack every few seconds by crouching and firing four shots from their rifles, shots that can be deflected by Milla's Barrier Shield.

Freedom Planet[]

The Shade Troopers first appear during the Opening Cutscene of Freedom Planet, where they are deployed from the Absolution to invade Shuigang Palace and following Lord Brevon as he confronts the King. The Player first encounters them in Jade Creek, being deployed from Serpentine's Gunship. Later on, in Thermal Base, Battle Glacier and all 4 Rounds of Final Dreadnought, the Shade Troopers will teleport in on teleport pads as the Player comes within a certain distance. They will follow the Player as far as they can reach until they are either defeated or the Player continues to the next area. If a Shade Trooper takes a certain amount of damage, it will fall over and cannot be damaged between falling down and standing back up, but will be defeated once they take the same amount of damage again. If playing as Carol during the Gunship Boss Fight in Jade Creek, any Shade Trooper she defeats will drop a Fuel Tank so that she can obtain and use her Motorcycle. Care should be taken, for the Shade Troopers are not too weak individually, and are very dangerous in large numbers, even for Lilac and her Dragon Boost.

Wall Pusher[]

Wall Pusher is the nickname for a Shade Trooper who acts as a Mini-Boss in Thermal Base. It will try to push the Player into a lava stream using a movable wall. The Player must attack the wall to push the Shade Trooper into a detonator that is placed behind it. Using moves like Lilac's Hair Whip, Carol's Claw Combo or Milla's Shield Burst to push the wall back. Once contact is made, the detonator will explode, destroying the Wall Pusher. The wall will then transform into Crystal Shards, allowing the Player to proceed.

Freedom Planet 2[]

Shade Troopers make a return in Freedom Planet 2, under the command of Serpentine and Syntax as they plot to escape Avalice and reunite with their master, Lord Brevon. But in the time since Brevon's defeat, their durability has noticeably decreased and can now be destroyed after being knocked down only once, and not twice like three years ago. Apart from the stated period and the fact that the heroines became stronger as a reason, this may be due to the near complete absence of a standard metal used for their armor, as a result of which Shade Troopers now had to be made from either metal found on Avalice, or from damaged metal salvaged from the Robot Graveyard, as well as the lack of decent technical assistance. Nevertheless, The Shade Troopers remain to be formidable foes, especially when in great numbers.

Variants[]

There are now multiple variants of the Shade Troopers, shown as the following:
