Shade Cores are small, parasitic alien creatures that controls any machinery, including the robots of Lord Brevon's Army.[1]

Appearance

Shade Cores are a type of parasite with one large eye for its entire body. Normally, there are two forms of Shade Cores: a flying Insect Form and a Fish Form

Abilities

Shade Cores have the ability to house themselves into certain types of machines, thus possessing and turning some of them into the enemies that hassle the Player throughout every Stage. When the robots they are controlling are destroyed, a Shade Cores simply flies away.[2]So far, these creatures themselves cannot be destroyed by the Player, so it is unclear if a Shade Core can be destroyed at all.

History

Freedom Planet

The Shade Cores first arrived on Avalice alongside Lord Brevon, who used them to possess certain machines to spread chaos across the Planet. Following their Master's defeat at the hands of Team Lilac, the remaining Shade Cores were scattered across Avalice, and were likely hunted down, as shown when Soldiers were chasing a swarm of them through Shuigang Palace.

Freedom Planet 2

As of the Adventure Mode 2019 Trailer, Shade Cores are confirmed to return in Freedom Planet 2. Their full role is currently unknown, asides from the fact that they continue to serve the remnants of Lord Brevon's Army, possessing machines and attacking the Three Kingdoms.

Trivia

  • Internal Data suggests the name for the Flying Variant of the Shade Core is "IsEyeball". There is yet to be an official name for the Swimming Variant.
  • The Shade Cores could possibly be based off of Mites.[3]
