- The Magister, asking Team Lilac in helping to defend Shang Tu

The Royal Palace is the capital building of Shang Tu, and is the home of the Royal Magister. In Freedom Planet 2, it also acts as a HUB Area, serving as a Base of Operations and temporary residence for Team Lilac, who had been recruited to help defend Shang Tu from increasing robot attacks.

Story Overview

Freedom Planet

Theft of the Kingdom Stone

Following a raid that took place at Ancient Temple, General Gong returns to the Royal Palace and reports to the Magister on the Kingdom Stone's theft by Mayor Zao, declaring the Temple's pilgrimage as a coverup. This takes the Magister by surprise, as he never believed Zao was too much of a buffoon to be capable of such a heist. Gong informs him of a warning given to him by a "pair of youngsters" which he blindly dismissed, then apologizes for not taking heed. Magister assures Gong not to do so as he would've been just as skeptical, and requests the group that issued the warning. Soon after, Lady Neera senses something amiss (while commenting on Gong's scent), raising suspicions about "those kids". She insists on finding them, believing they had more knowledge on the Stone's theft.

Distrust and Deception

After the negotiations with Shang Mu go awry, thanks in part to the attack from Shuigang and the Sky Battalion, Team Lilac meet back with Gong at the Royal Palace, informing him of the Kingdom Stone's theft by Prince Dail. Torque requests to speak with the Magister, to which Gong accepts, stating he deserved to know. Upon greeting the Magister, Torque explains that the Stone was taken by Lord Brevon, who had been manipulating the Three Kingdoms into waging war. When asked for evidence, he provides to the Magister a fragment from one of Brevon's machines asking his scientists to examine its mineral composition. However, Lady Neera quickly warns the Magister not to get any closer, believing the Team's story to be highly suspicious and offers to explain a different theory. She goes on to tell how the story of Brevon was nothing but an attempt by Zao to cover up his crimes against the Kingdom Stone, believing the Team to have been paid by the Mayor to come up with this story. To further prove her theory, upon being asked by Lilac how she knew her and Carol, Neera explains how she did a background check on the girls and found that not only have they been stealing Crystal Shards, but believes them to be involved with the Red Scarves, who were responsible for the heist as she proceeds to prove it via a wanted poster of Lilac & Carol. When asked by the Magister if their status as criminals and spies was believed to be true, Lilac explains that they no longer work with the Scarves and that their involvement with the Guild only for their survival. Deciding to take Neera's theory into account, Magister instructs Neera to detain Team Lilac, despite Lilac's plea, and places Torque and his "evidence" in quarantine as the Commander begs for the fragment to be examined.

After a failed escape attempt by Milla, Lilac "confesses" to the Magister about forcing Torque to help her. Magister states that while he will release him, Lilac and her friends were to remain confined until otherwise. Lilac wishes to say goodbye to Torque and apologize for their deception, which the Magister allows. Torque displays disbelief in their predicament as he had hoped to gain Shang Tu's support. Lilac assures Torque that they couldn't do anything if they were all behind bars and that more evidence was needed. Torque worries about what happens next to the Team, but Lilac promises to catch up to him. Soon after, the girls break out and escape after Torque into Jade Creek, only for their efforts to be in vain as Torque is captured by Brevon's Forces.

Lilac's Redemption

Later on, an injured Lilac escapes the destruction of Brevon's Thermal Base in the Jade Creek Outskirt, but is separated from her friends and is soon found by Lady Neera, much to her shock. Neera demands Lilac to stand down despite her pleas to find her friends, and insists of handling the situation in two ways, one of which she is still conscious in one of them. Lilac ultimately decides to surrender due to her injuries, and Neera places her under arrest.

Back at the Palace, the Magister announces Lilac's second deception to him, with her apologizing by any means. But much to the Dragon Girl's surprise, he admits to have been foolish for believing Lady Neera, stating that the fragment Torque had presented was examined. The Magister then offers Lilac a chance for redemption, with a mission in order to earn his trust and assistance. Lilac humbly accepts and is taken to the healing saunas, where her injuries were quickly healed and her strength and hair trendils restored via liquified Life Petals. Shortly after, Neera informs Lilac that the fragment was made from a rare material discovered in another location. When asked by Lilac why it hadn't have been retrieved by now, Neera states that the location was believed to have been radioactive, though after careful studying, she confirmed the location is safe enough to be investigated. The Magister believes the fragment's composition to benefit them on how the invaders know of their world and how to defeat them. Neera instructs Lilac to investigate as quickly as possible, with Lilac promising to do so without failure.

Later on, Lilac returns to the Palace with Pangu, an AI Robot who plays a recorded message from a late Dragon Scientist, who explained the origins of the Kingdom Stone and how the Ancient Dragons first came to Avalice. Upon seeing the message, the Magister takes it with great stride, realizing the Kingdom Stone to be more important than ever and urges that it be returned to its resting place. He also warns Lilac that Zao has declared war against Shuigang, much to Lilac's shock, knowing of their innocence. The Magister states that he sent his own Soldiers to hold them off, though fears it won't last long. Seeing Lilac as the only "Dragonblood" worthy of his trust, the Magister instructs Lilac to take Pangu along and to ride to the snowfields in hopes of stopping the upcoming war. Lilac accepts the mission as the Magister wishes her safe winds.

A New Beginning

Following Brevon's Defeat, the Kingdom Stone transforms into a Crystalline Vortex, and the Magister watches from the Palace's Audience Chamber, stating a new opportunity has fallen before them. He tells of the winds extending the stone's glow towards the farthest lands as former enemies join together once again. Magister states, however, that creatures both mutant and metal still roam the lands, stating that it would be some time before they are disposed of. He also tells how Lord Brevon was nowhere to be found in the aftermath. While there is still more work to be done and not completely out of danger, the Magister states that he and his people can rest easy, seeing as how the bravery and sacrifice of "a select few" has given their world another chance.

The Museum Arc

After dealing with a robot attack at Shenlin Park, Team Lilac arrives at the Royal Palace to greet the Magister, who is thankful for their arrival on such short notice. He goes on to explain the recent uprising in robot attacks across Avalice, believing this to be of no coincidence. Wanting to learn the mystery of this uprising, the Magister requests Team Lilac and other capable warriors to counter the attacks and discover their origin, promising to reward them for their efforts. Lady Neera continues by stating that the girls were allowed to keep any gems they find during their missions, as well as using the Palace Grounds as their base of operations, though Carol dismisses the former as "cleanup duty". Lilac rebuts her remark, reminding her that they needed a place to stay and didn't want to freeload off Milla, stating that the gems could help rebuild their Treehouse. Carol remarks how she wanted to find and trash the robot that destroyed their home. Milla offers to help, though is worried about her Laboratory. Neera states that the soldiers can help transport her equipment, much to the Hound's relief, though she asks them to wear safety equipment. With their minds set in stone, the Team accept the Magister's mission, ready to render a great service to their world.

The Battlesphere Arc

Lilac searches the Royal Palace for Carol, who is nowhere to be found. She finds Milla in the Command Center asks her for Carol's whereabouts, with Milla stating that Carol had gone to Shang Mu to get ice cream for everyone. Skeptical of this, Lilac uses the terminal to contact Carol and learns that she was on her way to the Battlesphere to win the Grand Prize, much to the Dragon Girl's surprise. Lady Neera, having watched a commercial for the Battlesphere on the terminal with Lilac and Milla, is promptly furious for Carol's desertion, stating that the girls are free to go after her themselves. Lilac reminds Neera about finding more fighters for their cause, but Neera replies that she and Gong had already considered recruiting Captain Kalaw, but the Champion showed no interest, seeing their battles as "Military Service". Wanting to make the most out of the situation, Lilac proposes winning the challenge at the Battlesphere in hopes of Kalaw's reconsideration. Milla considered it to be fun to enter the Battlesphere, even coming up with her own Stage Name: "Allim, the Masked Marauder with a Mysterious Past". Neera seems hesitant, but after pondering in thought on whether or not the robots in Shang Mu were related to the ones they've been fighting, she decides to go along with Lilac's plan and accompanies her and Milla to Shang Mu.

Following the events at the Battlesphere, the Team returns to the Palace with Carol ecstatic about their time spent there, albeit bummed about not winning any real grand prize. Lilac, however, tells her that they were at least successful in getting the Champion's attention while Milla comments about being able to eat at City Hall whenever they wanted.

Trivia

  • In the Royal Palace, there is an arrow impaled in the left column closest to the Magister. This may be a reference to East-Asian Culture, where people used arrows to send messages to Royal Families in high places.
