TSSAH! Where's that blasted Snake Mount?!
- Serpentine, after Torque retreats into his Shell

The Hunter Snake is the Mid-Boss and End-Boss of Dragon Valley in Freedom Planet.

Appearance[]

The Hunter Snake is a giant purple snake-like robot powered by a Shade Core. It has golden armor running along its back, a pair of horns under the side of its head and a set of at least four fangs.

Background[]

The Hunter Snake appears to be a companion or mount of Serpentine, who refers to it as Snake Mount. As seen in the cinematic after clearing Dragon Valley, when Torque curls into his shell, Serpentine cries, "Where's that blasted snake mount?!" only to find one of its segments fall to the ground next to him. In the Beta Version of Freedom Planet, there is a small cutscene before the start of Dragon Valley, showing the Hunter Snake rising from behind a hill and Serpentine riding on its back. It is unknown as to whether or not the Hunter Snake is an animal mutated by a Shade Core or an alien creature brought to Avalice by Lord Brevon.

Behavior[]

Mid-Boss Fight[]

Carol VS Hunter Snake in Dragon Valley

The Hunter Snake will pop out of different holes in the ground and fly around in different, easily telegraphed patterns. After entering one of the holes, it will pop back out to spit fireballs at Lilac or Carol. To defeat the Hunter Snake, the Player simply needs to destroy the shells protecting the different segments of its body and then attack its head. It is best recommended to use the Dragon Cyclone or wild Kick (Bike Fu if Carol has her Motorcycle). In the Mid-Boss Fight, the Player only needs to hit its head once after destroying the shells, which will cause it to flee. Later on, Hunter Snake will hide in waterfalls, occasionally popping out to spit fireballs at the Player.

End-Boss Fight[]

The End-Boss Fight has the same strategy as with the Mid-Boss Fight, except it takes place in a large, round area where the Player can use Lilac's Dragon Boost or Carol's Motorcycle to run (or ride) up the walls and ceiling. During this fight, there are only two holes, and the Hunter Snake can cause boulders to fall from the ceiling and also perform a rolling attack before burrowing into one of the holes. The Hunter Snake's head now also needs to be damaged at least three times in order to defeat it for the second and final time, and boulders will fall down from above for each time the Hunter Snake's head is damaged. The boulders can be attacked and destroyed, as they have a chance to drop a Life Petal. After its head is damaged once, it will have recovered half of its segments when it returns, and after the second time, it will have zero segments left, leaving its head vulnerable to a final attack. Once it's defeated, the Hunter Snake will crash through the ceiling (Lilac) or through the right wall (Carol), exploding afterwards.

Attacks[]

  • Flame Spit: After popping its head out of a hole, the Hunter Snake will spit out a small fireball from its mouth. It will also use this attack during the waterfall sections of Dragon Valley's 2nd Act.
  • Snake Wheel: During the End-Boss Fight, the Hunter Snake will curl up into a wheel and crash around on the ground, walls and ceiling before retreating into a hole.
  • Boulder Rain: During the End-Boss Fight, when the Hunter Snake retreats underground, it will create small tremors that causes boulders to fall from the ceiling. The boulders can be broken and may drop a Life Petal.
